Let’s sing together and sync together using our AUTHENTIC voices. Our roar! Basic singing theory will be introduced in blocks to build into the success of each student. We will sing both solo and as a group. ALL styles of music! Lots of team building shenanigans will occur. Rated M for mature.  I hope to see you there. YES, YOU!  ROCK N ROAR!

PERSONAL SUMMARY
I am a professional singer and entertainer. As well, I teach both singing and music lessons to all ages. I have performed throughout Canada and internationally in places such as Nashville, Las Vegas and the the Persian Gulf. In 2002 I became a vocal major, earning a Diploma in Jazz at Vancouver Island University College in British Columbia, Canada. Since then I have worked in musical theatre and performed in bands with styles ranging from country to pop, from rock to r&b. I was a finalist in The David Foster Star search and won a singing contest that landed me a 3 month gig as the opening act in a Las Vegas production.  Two years ago I performed with the likes of Nancy Wilson (Heart) and Steven Adler (Guns N' Roses). I also have shared the stage with members of Whitesnake, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Dio, and more.  I have just returned from Costa Rica, where for several months, I helped to build a music program for the children. Thanks to volunteers and generous sponsors, enough money was raised to purchase an electric guitar, bass, drums, amps  and other gear to complete the project.  As well as teaching hundreds of music classes, camps and clubs for kids using all instruments, I also teach singing lessons for all ages.   The idea of  Explore your Roar was born in Costa Rica and I'm excited to continue on with this creative class for adults.

For nearly ten years I have been teaching voice lessons to groups and solo singers. From my professional home recording studio I teach both independently and through other music companies. I also teach online singing lessons. I take what I learned in the jazz program and apply it to all styles of music; pop, rock, r & b, country, etc. Many of my clients have participated and won in singing competitions both locally and internationally or have gone on to record albums and tour. Not long ago one of my pop students was featured as a finalist on YTV’s television show, The Next Star SuperGroup.

Using vocal techniques,  I work to strengthen and control the singing voice.  I encourage the students to familiarize themselves with and play various music instruments (which I provide)  to understand the dynamics of musical instruments.  This allows for singers to develop an awareness of  the basics of instruments in an easy way.  From there we can better apply methods on how to use the voice as an instrument while maintaining a natural sound. Through creative expression I encourage students to confidently find and free their unique, signature voice. I thoroughly believe in my students and I strive to be fun, enthusiastic, encouraging  and inspirational with my teaching methods. From my point of view, singing isn’t only about learning proper technique, practising scales and gigging. It’s also about developing passion, confidence and perseverance. I believe that if you can acquire all of these traits and have a positive sense of direction then you will be successful in ways that you may never have imagined. Working with the highest degree of professionalism, I enjoy the challenge of bringing out the very best in aspiring singers. All in all, I educate both the technical and the emotional aspects of  music and singing.

Private and group lessons available.

TEACHING METHODS FOR VOCALS

First and foremost, the singing lessons that I teach are fun and educational. I want my students to be confident. I believe that the courage they gain as a singer will spill over into other areas of their lives. Geared towards all genres and levels, I customize CDs of vocal warmups and exercises in the student’s vocal range. Using proper techniques, we work on the songs that they want to sing. In the process, here are some of the skills that they will learn;

- Controlled breathing
- Ear training
- Proper vowel placement
- Projecting the voice
- Singing from the diaphragm
- Strengthening and stretching the vocal range
- Bridging the vocal registers
- Developing and enhancing vocal tone
- Improving diction
- Singing with expression
- Improvising so that the vocalist makes a song their own
- Finding the singer’s signature voice
- Understanding microphone control
- Performing with confidence                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    - Positive mind, voice and body connection
- Creating a lifetime of musical enjoyment
