Vocalist, performance artist, and music teacher Shannon Shade has recently performed with the likes of Nancy Wilson (Heart) and Steven Adler (Guns N' Roses). She has shared the stage with members of Whitesnake, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Dio, and more. Shannon has just returned from Costa Rica, where for several months, she helped to build a music program for the children. Thanks to volunteers and generous sponsors, enough money was raised to purchase an electric guitar, bass, drums, amps and other gear to complete the project. As well as teaching hundreds of music camps, classes and rock clubs for kids, she also teaches singing lessons for all ages. The idea of Explore your Roar, Creative Group Vocal Classes for Adults, was born in Costa Rica, and she is excited to continue on teaching this class.
As a vocal major, Shannon received her Performance Diploma at Malaspina University College (Nanaimo, BC) in Jazz Studies. During her time at Malaspina she performed and soloed frequently with the Malaspina Choir, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and several first-rate jazz combos. Shannon has also expanded her experience through performing in several roles in TV/film, gospel choirs and musical theatre productions including Titanic, The New Musical, Dracula...The Musical?, and The Rocky Horror Show. As well, she was one of the top 20 finalists in the David Foster Star search 2007.
After completing her musical education, Shannon fronted many different bands with styles ranging from jazz to rock and soon she began to write her own music. This led to an opportunity to study songwriting in Tennessee (USA) for three months with industry leaders and to work as a session singer in both Nashville and Memphis. One of the highlights of this trip was the chance to perform on Beale Street and witness the sensational gospel and electrifying blues music. It was at this point she realized without a doubt that her own musical niche was jazz, blues, rock and soul.
Shannon won an online singing contest that landed her a role in the Las Vegas musical production called The Cowboy Cabaret. Since then she has performed throughout Canada and internationally in places such as the Middle East. She currently lives in both Las Vegas, NV and Calgary, AB where she fronts bands and entertains regularly. She can be found spontaneously showing up at any given event to do surprise performances through her business Calgary Singing Telegrams and Practical Jokes.
